Author Visits

Hello, teachers, librarians, and book lovers! I’m a Pennsylvania author and a trained scientist. I love visiting schools (virtually and in-person) and sharing my excitement for reading, writing, and science. I’m happy to work with you to craft a visit that meets your needs. Have questions? Just get in touch and we’ll chat.

Library Media Specialist & STEAM Teacher, Mars Area Centennial School, PA

“Rebecca was an amazing presenter and captivated our entire school.”

Elementary Librarian, Ferguson Township Elementary, PA

“Thank you for the phenomenal author visit. The kids absolutely LOVED it!!! And your books are flying out of the library like hotcakes!”

In-person Visits

My standard rates for in-person school visits:

• $500 for a single presentation: One 45- to 60-minute presentation including a Q & A session (available within 90 minutes of State College, PA)

• $1,200 for a full day: Three 45- to 60-minute presentations with Q & A sessions, plus a book signing, and lunch with teachers or students

Fees do not include travel costs (for locations over 1 hour from State College, PA). Travel expenses can be shared between schools, if applicable.

Virtual Visits

My standard rates for virtual visits:

$250 for a single 45- to 60-minute presentation

$150 for additional same-day presentations

Aside from being more affordable for schools, virtual visits have unique advantages. Because I present from my office, students get a tour of my work space — and they even get to meet my pets! My virtual visits also feature expanded Q & A. I find the best way to engage with students during virtual visits is by answering their questions.

Library Storytimes

My storytimes include an introduction, interactive readings from one or more of my books, a movement break, a writing activity, and fun freebies such as bookmarks and coloring pages.

My rates for library visits:

Because library budgets vary widely, it’s difficult for me to set standard rates for library visits. Please get in touch and let me know your location, your budget, and what kind of program you’re looking for, and we’ll try to work something out!

Sample Programs

Below are a few of my popular presentations that I’ve given at schools over the years. Feel free to contact me at rebeccahirsch [at] mac [dot] com with questions about programs.

  • Who Wakes When You Sleep?

    Grades PreK - 2

We read my book Night Creatures, meet some of the mysterious animals that come out after dark, and plan our own nighttime adventure.

  • Plants Can't Sit Still

    Grades PreK-2

We read my book Plants Can’t Sit Still, explore the strange-but-true ways plants move, and have fun trying out the different moves ourselves.

  • Animal Superpowers!

    Grades K through 6

My most popular presentation! We explore real-life superpowers of animals with hands-on activities. Drawing on several of my books, this presentation is jam-packed with science content.

  • Solving An Ocean Mystery

    Grades 3 and up

Drawing on my book Birds vs. Blades?, we explore a real-life environmental mystery—how do ocean wind farms affect birds?—and go on an adventure with scientists to find answers.
