I love visiting schools!

Doing author visits and connecting with students and educators is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I offer STEM/STEAM programs about plants and animals, and behind-the-scenes looks at wildlife research. My goal is to spark curiosity, deepen creative thinking, and ignite a lifelong love of learning.

The Tallest Trees

Rise to the Sky is the true story of how trees grow up. Students get an inside look at the journey of a book, from idea to drafting, revision to illustration, and finally to publication. The program includes a reading of Rise to the Sky, an interactive activity to show how trees grow, and time for questions and answers.

Animal Superpowers

In this interactive presentation, students explore real-life animal superpowers. The program is full of science facts and includes hands-on activities designed to stimulate learning.

A Monarch Butterfly Mystery

Drawing on the content of The Monarchs Are Missing, I take students into the fascinating world of monarch butterflies. Together we explore a real environmental crisis—the dwindling population of monarch butterflies—and look at the tools and methods that scientists are using to help solve the problem. And students learn some of the ways they can help.

Solving an Ocean Mystery

In this presentation, students explore a real-life environmental mystery—how can we protect birds from wind farms in the ocean? Together we go on an adventure with scientists, sailing out to sea, catching birds, and tracking them, all in an attempt to find answers.

WHOO Wakes when You Sleep?

I read aloud my book Night Creatures and introduce students to some of the mysterious animals that come out after dark. Through hands-on activities, students explore the senses of nocturnal animals, and they learn how to plan their own nighttime adventure.
